Sod Installation

Installing sod begins with removing the existing yard. Then grade the soil to ensure proper drainage and fit to existing patios and walkways. We will likely use powered equipment initially in preparing your yard. But the final grading will always be performed using hand tools.

The common types of sod used in Florida are St. Augustine (Floratam), Zoysia, and Bermuda.

St.Augustine. Heat and sun loving this grass holds up well to foot traffic. Dark green with soft blades making it nice to walk on barefoot. Reasonably drought tolerant. Fast grower during the growing season.

Zoysia. Dark leaves with smaller leaf blades. Drought and salt spray tolerant. Will go dormant and possibly brown in the winter months.

Bermuda. One of the most popular lawn grasses in the United States. It is known for its durability, heat and drought tolerance, and beautiful green color. Bermuda Grass is a warm-season grass, which means it goes dormant in the winter months. However, with proper care, Bermuda Grass can stay green all year long. Best for golf courses and athletic fields.

Landscaping, Lawncare and Garden Maintenance

Both commercial and residential lawn care include, mowing, edging and clean-up.

Mulching is a great way to create a Florida-friendly landscape. If you’ve ever visited a state park or other natural area, you’ll quickly notice that—no matter the environment—mulching is the primary way that nature cares for its soil and plant life. Whether it’s leaves, bark, pine needles, decomposing wood, or some other type of tree debris, mulch covers much of our forests and recreational areas.

By adding a 2-3 inch layer of mulch to any areas that you are trying to keep weeds out of that will help desired plants to grow. In addition to acting as a weed barrier, mulch is great at protecting your soil and serving your plants. Benefits of mulching:

  • Retain moisture so you won’t have to water as much.

  • Insulate the soil from extreme heat or cold.

  • Suppress weeds and other plants competing for nutrients.

  • Reduce soil erosion and stormwater run-off.

  • Fertilize your plants as it breaks down.

Types of Mulch

  • Pine Bark Mulch: This type of mulch is created from shredded pine trees. It comes in a variety of shades including brown, red, and golden brown.

  • Shredded Hardwood Mulch: Hardwood mulch is created from shredded branches, forest scraps or recycled construction wood.

  • Cypress Mulch: Cypress mulch is created from shredded cypress trees. It’s noted for its durability and insect resistance.

  • Rubber or Playground Mulch: This is shredded rubber mulch that provides cushioning in case of a fall. It comes in several colors. Since this is a synthetic mulch we only recommend it for use in commercial settings or under play equipment used by children. Special care should be taken, such as physical edging, to prevent it from migrating into the environment.

  • Colored Mulch: Mulch not only comes in a variety of forms and textures it can also come in a variety of colors using synthetic dyes. It can make a dramatic statement in any garden. Colored mulch options include black, brown, gold, and red.

  • River Rocks. Smooth, modern and durable. Whether used as a border or an entire bed, river rocks make quite the statement.

  • Lava Rock. A great choice for both residential and commercial applications. Typically available in black and red oxide. Durable yet porous, lava rock suppresses weeds while allowing air and water to reach your plant’s roots.

We created a front parking area for this customer by removing the vegetation and a couple of inches of soil. Then laid down three inches of shells. Gravel is another good choice of material.

Plant Installation

  • A beautiful landscape without birds, butterflies, and other wildlife is not just boring, it’s environmentally sterile. In order for flowers to bloom and fruit to grow, they need pollination.

  • The best way to attract wildlife is to create areas that cater to them. Plant things that provide nesting areas, protection, and food sources for the wildlife you’d like to encourage.  Provide water in the form of a birdbath or small pond and limit things that could harm or deter them like pesticides, or herbicides.

  • Manage Pests Responsibly

  • If done right, nature will take care of itself. But, be patient and only use pesticides in extreme circumstances or to “spot treat” problem areas. Pesticides should never be considered as a blanket solution. If you must use pesticides choose the least-toxic options like horticultural oils, insecticidal soaps, or BT (bacillus thuringiensis).

  • Whether it’s installing new wildlife friendly plants or trimming shrubs and hedges. All your garden needs and plants are safe in our hands.
